CSA Starts Earlier!

We will be starting the 2010 CSA season in June, two weeks earlier. The season will last 20 weeks from mid-June through the end of October at all sites. To make your CSA experience last even longer, check out our NEW! Winter Share option.

Vegetable Shares (mid-June to end of October: 20 weeks)

The vegetable share includes main-season vegetables, such as lettuce, spinach, Swiss chard, beets, peppers, sweet corn, eggplant, summer squash, radishes, zucchini, cucumbers, cherry tomatoes, heirloom tomatoes, basil, carrots, cabbage, cauliflower, broccoli, potatoes, onions, garlic, shell beans, green beans, collards, winter squashes and more. The size of a vegetable share varies throughout the season, starting out lighter at the beginning with more leafy greens and becoming more varied and abundant as the season progresses. Depending on the number of people using the share and your eating habits, more or less food may be appropriate for your household. By offering three vegetable share options, we are trying to address different people's veggie needs.

Small Share: In order to adapt to the feedback we received from our members, we are offering a Small Share in the 2010 CSA season. The small share will be appropriate for 1-2 people (on average), or to supplement your grocery purchases with some great fresh, local produce.

Regular Share: We've estimated our regular share to be between 5-20 lbs of produce. Or another way to put: A regular share will fill 1-2 grocery bags. Depending on your eating habits, this share could feed a household or 2-4 people.

Super Family Share: We are increasing the size of the Super Share this year, making it appropriate for sizeable households or extreme foodies. The share will be roughly 30% larger than the 2009 Super Share.

For examples of produce you'll find in your share, check out our Produce ID Guide!
Winter Share (beginning of November to mid-December: 5 deliveries)

We are extending the CSA season! When the main CSA season finishes, at the end of October, you will now be able to continue enjoying Farmer Dave's produce with the Winter Share. There will be a total of four deliveries every week in November until Thanksgiving and a fifth share to be delivered the week of December 13th. The final two shares will be larger holiday shares. Since we are planning for the whole CSA now, we ask that you sign up for the winter share at the time of regular registration. You can look forward the following in items your winter share:

Brussels sprouts, cabbage, broccoli, potatoes, carrots, beets, onions, garlic, celeriac, turnips, different winter squashes, spinach, winter greens, leeks, apples, cranberries, parsnips, and lettuce
Fruit Share (early/mid-August to end of October: 13 weeks)

The fruit share is like the icing on the cake. It is nature's candy. It's the sweet stuff we never feel guilty about eating. The fruit shares are meant for about two people over the week. Multiple shares are an option for larger families, or to share with the office.

Some of the fruit you can expect to find:

blueberries, raspberries, pears, peaches, nectarines, plums, apricots, melons, and multiple varieties of apples*

* Farmer Dave's is working towards growing all of the fruit available in the fruit shares. The farm currently grows the strawberries, blueberries, and melons in the fruit share, and as the fruit trees mature, more and more of the apples will come from our orchards. Until the farm is able to provide all the fruit, Farmer Dave's will get fruit from local farms in Massachusetts and New Hampshire that use environmentally sustainable methods. Within 3 years, Farmer Dave expects to be able to offer all his own fruit.
