Use your apple stash to make some of your own apple cider.
Your house will smell amazing!
Grab your slow cooker and fill it with a mix of sliced apples, you can leave the skins on.
Use a mix of different types.
1 orange, sliced – peeled or unpeeled your choice. I zest it, save the zest then peel.
I add the zest in after straining.
3 cinnamon sticks or 1 tablespoonful of ground cinnamon
Sprinkle of clove and nutmeg if desired
Sugar – depending on the apples. I add very little sugar to mine- 1/4 cup. Feel free to adjust according to your taste.
Fill the slow cooker up with enough water to cover the fruit.
Cook on low, covered for 7 hours.
Take the cover off and mash the fruit down (I use a potato masher). Let the mixture cook for another hour.
Slowly scoop the solids to drain through a fine mesh sieve over a pot, pressing gently with the back of a sturdy wooden spoon.
Once the solids have been dealt with strain the rest of the cider through the sieve.
Pass the cider through the sieve once more straining it back into the slow cooker. Add the zest, stir and taste.
Serve warm. Store leftovers in the refrigerator for 5 to 7 days.
